STATEMENTS:
Even though we
have an experience of war and war suffering behind us and even though the
majority of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina are against attack on Iraq, it
didn't prevent the ruling strucutres of this country to give suport to
imperialist policy of United States of America and the attack on Irakian people
that suffers for years crucified between the imposed sanctions and dictatorial
regime of Sadam Hussein.
We did not
expect anything better from the «servile» attitude of our Government, but what
worries us is the silence of so called civil sector and different non-Government
organizations which appear to deal with the protection of human rights and which
should have a position in front of such global threat to the world peace.
Unfortunatelly, it seems that seminars and round tables, financed by American
money, of which a part ends up in the pockets of our «well paid humanitarian
workers» are more important than unversal human values. But even if we do not
have in our country an articulated and unison voice against the war, it is
widely present and strong in other parts of the world, including the United
States of America themelves.
Ten million people are
expected to join the protests against the war on Iraq. Peace activists are
organizing marches across Europe, America and Near East, which can grow into the
biggest ever held demonstrations. The day of action is planned for Saturday,
February 15th, the day described by the activists as the «last chance to stop
the war» in Iraq.
We want to join these manifestations
on the global level and send a message from this part of the world that there
are also people here that are against the crazy ideas of world power welders and
another war for oil.
We find that the disarmament of Iraq is just an excuse for the attack, as well
as that the justification of the action in the name of democracy and fight
against terrorism is false. The only real reasons for the war are OIL RESERVES
(the only significant reserves in the Gulf not controlled by the United States
of America) and the CONTROL OF SPACE (which would, together with the occupation
of Afghanistan, make Near East and Central Asia unique geostrategical space
under the influence of the United States of America). The price of this will
once again be paid by Irakian people and innocent civilians. The warnings of
humanitarian organizations CARE International and Arhitect for People in Need
predict that thousands of inhabitations and houses will be left without water
within 12 hours, followed by the lack of food, and the danger of epidemie is
hovering above the country should the sewage mix with the water supply system
due to the bombardments.
We invite all
interested citizens to join us in the peace gathering on Saturday, February 15,
at 11h00 in the park of Fejiceva street in Mostar.
