MIF  (MOSTAR INTERCULTURAL FESTIVAL) 

   Culture and art are the ways of expression which create and fulfill themselves through freedom and spontaneity. 

   The Mostar Intercultural Festival takes  place every summer in the town of Mostar in Bosnia Hezegovina. This festival offers a space where people of different cultural background can exchange through freedom of expression and working next to each other. The event is taking place for six years now, with the aim of reintegration, exchange and revival of cultural and artistic values which are lost and forgotten beneath the politicized layers of society. 

   The organization of such festival is pragmatic. A socio-cultural action adapted to a political goal : the return to a everyday life without fears and hates, precondition for the reconciliation and reunification. Mostar is the capitol of Herzegovina and a symbolic town, cutes in two during the war with a rare and intense violence. Since ceasefire, the economical and social situation is blocked by nationalism as well as the cultural and educational structures, taken as tool to maintain the division. But still there is some people, mostly aged between twenty and thirty, who are everyday crossing the borders between people and communities; by their way of life and without speeches or through activism in NGOs and concrete projects.   

   So far more than 600 artists from different parts of Europe have contributed to it through their performance in different artistic disciplines: cinema and video, theater and street spectacles, exhibitions and happenings, concerts and music events, workshops for children, animation of youth and urban art. Over 50 individuals participate all year long in the realization of the 15 day Mostar Intercultural Festival  every summer. It is evident that the MIF becomes a tradition in Mostar, promoting a new facet of culture and cooperation in which the young people feel good and actively build an original way of democratization of the society.
